Cheese, wine and Poems at Birch Green

A sophisticated afternoon was on the menu at Birch Green Care Home in Skelmersdale recently.

A selection of cheese and biscuits were washed down with a glass of wine, with entertainment provided by residents Edna and Mildred, who got into the spirit of the occasion with readings of a selection of memorable poems.

Mother’s Day at Birch Green

Residents at Birch Green Care Home celebrated Mother’s Day with a special treat at breakfast.

Activities coordinator Gill made sure all our ladies had a Mother’s Day present, a thoughtful touch which was appreciated by everyone.

Happy Mother’s Day to our special residents and to everyone who knows what an important job mothers do!

Birch Green in the community

At Birch Green we are proud of our links with the community, and recently took part in the launch of a new Monthly Community Activity Hub.

The event, held at the Civic Hall in Ormskirk, was organised by the Athena Healthcare Group, and launched a series of new monthly events to help older people engage with likeminded individuals in the area through meaningful activities.

Birch Green’s staff attended to meet other care professionals and showcase the work the home does. They met with representatives from Age Concern, a dementia support group, representatives of other homes and even the Lady Mayoress.

Visitors to Birch Green’s area were particularly touched by the Valentine’s Day display which included residents’ happy memories.

The day also included a talk by Everton in the Community representative Henry Mooney, who spoke to welcome everyone and wishing them good luck in the future with the Hub.

A local singer known as John Macca, a tribute act to Paul McCartney stopped by to entertain everyone, and a performance from the Skelmersdale Community Singers rounded the event off nicely..

Happy St Patrick’s Day from Birch Green

Staff at Birch Green showed off their Irish dancing skills recently as part of a range of activities marking St Patrick’s Day.

Birch Green was visited by local professional singer Tina Riley for an afternoon of Irish singalong, and the home was filled with Irish-themed decorations with lots of green items on show.

Traditional Irish refreshment was also on offer – Guinness and Baileys!

Cathedral trip a success

Residents from Birch Green were accompanied on a popular trip to Liverpool’s Anglican Cathedral recently.

The impressive building towers over the city, and our group had a beautiful day with comments made that it was one of the best day trips we’ve every organised.

During the outing, we also enjoyed a spot of lunch with resident Grenville tasting the local delicacy of Scouse for the first time.
