There are numerous benefits to singing, which is why we regularly incorporate it into activities and invite performers into Birch Green.
Singing can help bring back distant memories and remind people of certain times in their lives, which is why it’s also a really effective way of alleviating the symptoms of dementia.
Research has shown that singing and music can reach parts of the brain which have been damaged, so even if people have lost their ability to speak, they may be able to hum, clap or tap their feet along to a rhythm.
It’s also very therapeutic, helping to soothe and relax.
Recently we welcomed entertainer Sophie into the home, who provided us with a wonderful afternoon of entertainment by singing a selection of popular songs, much to everyone’s delight.
