At Birch Green Care Home, we have a person-centred approach to care, with specialist services and facilities that are designed to support those whose lives are affected by dementia.
Our dementia bistro is a welcoming place for relatives and friends of residents we care for in our dementia service to come together and share their experiences of living with dementia. Recently Help Direct has lent its support to our initiatives, an organisation which provides community-based wellbeing services. We also receive regular visits from Ian Donaghy, author and dementia campaigner.
Residents can enjoy the benefits of a whole range of activities designed to stimulate positive memories, such as our arts and craft afternoons, days out, parties, musical therapy and holistic treatments.
*Dementia is caused when the brain is damaged by diseases such as Alzheimer’s or a series of strokes. Symptoms may include memory loss and difficulties with thinking, speech and problem-solving. There are currently 850,000 people with dementia in the UK, a figure which is expected to rise to more than a million by the year 2021.
