A very special event was held at Birch Green recently, bringing to life wartime memories to commemorate the 70th anniversary of D-Day.
Staff in costumes – including Jan as singer Vera Lynn, Tracey as a wartime nurse, Carol as a landgirl, and John as an injured soldier – were joined by Mary Cash, family member of one of our residents, for the event.
The group got into character to tell a moving ‘story’ about the D-Day landings and the personal stories of those involved (pictured).
For this wonderful occasion, Birch Green was decorated with Union Jack bunting and wartime posters, and Jan belted out a number of tunes including the popular White Cliffs of Dover.
There was a real party atmosphere and we served up food including Spam sandwiches and cake, and everyone involved relished the chance to show our respect and support for our veterans.
