There is plenty to celebrate at Birch Green, but the occasion of a 100th birthday is something to truly cherish.
This week we helped the family of Lily Coltman, who has been a resident here since August, celebrate her centenary year.
Her family, including son Malcolm, daughter-in-law Vera, grandchildren Spencer and Melissa and great-grandchildren seven-year-old Lily and Finlay, five, all joined in to mark the occasion.
Birch Green cooks Alison James and Sarah Daily were on hand to present Lily with a special cake. Singer Chris Dale and Lily’s friend Mary O’Connell joined in to make the day truly special.
Lily has had a fascinating life. She grew up in a small Welsh village called Summerhill, near Wrexham. As a young woman she worked as a parlour maid and then a cook in a mansion in Wales, and reports she has since had a very happy life in Lancashire.
She puts her long life down to being active and not thinking about her age, and everyone here at Birch Green wish her all the best on this special occasion.
Lily told us: “If I could do it all again, I would do everything the same.”
