Our lifestyle team is always on the lookout for ways to help our residents live independently and to enjoy the hobbies and activities they love.
Recently we were able to support popular resident Vera to craft a colourful card for her daughter, marking her 21st wedding anniversary.
Vera became a resident at Birch Green Care Home after suffering a stroke affecting her right-hand side. Right-handed,
Vera had not been able to write for some time.
The lifestyle team at Birch Green have been supporting and encouraging Vera to practice her writing skills with both her left and right hands,
and following a visit from her daughter, Marie, Vera became determined to produce a special card.
Marie is known among her friends and family for sending cards. With her 21st anniversary on the horizon, lifestyle team member Sian Gardner spent several weeks helping Vera to choose patterns and symbols for the card, and to sign it ‘Love Mum’ at the end.
Sian said: “It was a painstaking job for Vera to practice her handwriting and craft skills until she could put her own card together,
and she was delighted with the result.
“The lovely card was received very emotionally by her daughter Marie, which was also lovely to see and is a great illustration of the amazing results our residents achieve every day.”
