Singing to celebrate

Local singer Sophie Bennett visited Birch Green recently to sing in celebration of the Queen’s birthday.

To mark the occasion we had plenty of flags to wave and instruments to play along with, while we enjoyed both a glass of bubble and Sophie’s songs.

Mindful music at Birch Green

Residents and staff on our upper floor recently enjoyed singing and dancing to Mindful Music, a duo specialising in musical therapy in care homes.

Jed and Maggie have been singing therapeutically for a number of years, and we booked them through a special care sector activities service Birch Green has recently joined, called Bright Copper Kettles.

Bright Copper Kettles is a free resource for organisers of activities for older people, and offers a number of opportunities for our Lifestyle Team which we look forward to trying out.

Mindful Music was our first booking and went down a treat – we all enjoyed their visit and look forward to seeing them again.

Celebrating St George’s Day in style

A thoroughly British celebration was on the cards for St George’s Day.

Birch Green Care Home celebrated the national day of celebration with tea and scones, fresh fruit and cakes, all displayed on a lovely picnic style mini bench.

The home was decorated with red and white balloons among other decorations and we all came together for a right good old knees up.

Work starts on Birch Green’s improved dementia garden

Work has officially started on the transformation of Birch Green’s dementia garden.

Workmen were on the scene recently, measuring up and beginning to carry out the first stages in the planned improvements.

The first work to take place will be a new path constructed in the colourful and quiet space, which also acts as a sensory garden for residents.

The grand opening of our garden is planned for Sunday 21st May 2017 at 1.00pm.  Keep an eye on our website & Facebook page for future updates.

Birch Green display to honour Queen & St George’s Day

Birch Green’s popular and ever-changing central display will honour two British icons.

The latest theme will be a joint affair, shared between marking the Queen’s birthday and St George’s Day.

Our resident Lilly, pictured, remembers the day the Queen was born – Lilly and her family sat around the wireless listening to the announcement then joined in with a march through her village in celebration.

Lilly was 13 on the historic day, and recalls that the news was something to celebrate following the First World War.
