Taking to the water

A group of our residents from Birch Green Care Home took to the water for a relaxing trip along the Leeds Liverpool Canal.

We boarded the Rose of Parbold, a traditional narrowboat, at Parbold itself, and spent time travelling along the canal.

Torrential rain in the morning didn’t dampen our spirits, and the day soon brightened up. The journey included a stop at the boathouse for chips to go with the picnic we had brought which went down very well.

All the residents had a great time, and the trip was so peaceful – cruising along watching the ducks and enjoying the scenery.

Afternoon tea for Freda

A group of residents at Birch Green Care Home got together recently for a special afternoon tea.

The occasion was held in memory of former resident Winifred Edwards, known as Freda. A much-loved resident, Freda recently passed away.

Freda loved afternoon tea, so everyone thought it was a fitting tribute to enjoy fresh cream cakes and raise a glass to her.

We all miss Freda, and it’s good to know her family were so grateful to all the staff and residents at Birch Green for making her feel so welcome and part of the family.

Creative cake decorating

Residents of Birch Green’s upper floor spent time recently decorating cakes.

Armed with trusty cups of tea and cake decorating accessories, our residents transformed plain cupcakes into colourful treats they couldn’t wait to eat.

We all then went outside and enjoyed our cakes in the garden with our cups of tea.

Teaching dominos

We love playing traditional games here at Birch Green, and recently our domino team gathered to pass on a few tips.

Staff member Donna had never played and we were only too happy to give her some tips and enjoy a game in the process.

Arts and crafts on the agenda at Birch Green

Birch Green’s bistro became home to an arts and crafts room again recently.

A small group of residents gathered to use materials including pens, chalk, card and other accessories to make their colourful creations.

This multi functioning room got a little bit messy by the time they'd finished, but everyone agreed that's all part of the fun!
